Big and Small (Diwali)
Five rows of Diwali pictures shown big and small: a diya, a lantern, a marigold, a plate of sweets and another diya. The big picture switches sides, so children must compare carefully each time.
How to use this worksheet
- Name the two pictures in each row.
- Decide which one is big.
- Circle the big one in every row.
- Color the small ones for the bonus.
What your child practices
Big and small are early comparison words that lead to measurement and math vocabulary such as taller, longer, more and fewer. Because the big picture moves from side to side, children have to compare each pair instead of following a pattern.
Who it is for
Suitable for Pre-K and confident preschoolers, roughly ages three to five. Children who find it easy can describe each row in a full sentence: 'The big lantern is on the right.'
Keep it going
During the festival, look for big and small things together: a big rangoli and a small one, a big box of sweets and a small one, a big lamp and a tiny one. Sorting a handful of objects into big and small piles is a quick follow-up game.
