Trace the Diwali Path
Four dotted paths join Diwali pictures: a diya to a plate of sweets, a lantern to a marigold, a marigold to a diya and the sweets to a lantern. The lines get a little harder down the page, from straight to wavy, zigzag and bumpy.
How to use this worksheet
- Start at the picture on the left of the first row.
- Follow the dots with a crayon to the picture on the right.
- Try each path in turn: straight, wavy, zigzag and bumpy.
- Color all the pictures for the bonus.
Why tracing lines matters
Every letter and number is built from a few simple strokes. Tracing straight, curved and zigzag lines strengthens the small muscles in the hand and teaches the eye and hand to work together, which makes later handwriting much easier. Working from left to right also builds the direction used for reading and writing English.
Who it is for
This sheet suits children from about three to five. Beginners can do the straight line only and come back to the others another day. Confident children can trace each path twice in two colors, or draw their own path from a diya to a lantern.
Tips for a steady line
Sit at a table, keep the paper still with the other hand and go slowly. A short crayon or a chunky pencil encourages a better grip than a long thin one. Wobbles are normal; praise the effort and the finish, not the neatness.
