Find the Sight Word
Five rows for the early Kindergarten sight words the, and, see, can and is. Each row mixes the target word with look-alike words (she, then, ant, end, bee, sea, fan, cap, it, in), so children have to read each word carefully, circle the matches and write how many they found.
How to use this worksheet
- Read the red sight word at the start of the row.
- Circle that word every time it appears in the row.
- Count the circles and write how many in the box.
What your child practices
Recognizing common sight words quickly and noticing the small differences between similar words. The counts are 3, 2, 3, 4 and 2, so children also practice counting and writing numbers. This fits the US Kindergarten goal of reading common high-frequency words by sight.
Who it is for
Made for Kindergarten children around five to six who know their letter sounds and are starting to read short words. If a row feels hard, cover the other rows and read every word in the row aloud together before circling.
Build on it at home
Write the five words on sticky notes and hide them around a room for a sight word hunt, or look for them in a favorite picture book. Using each word in a spoken sentence ("I can jump") helps children remember what it means, not just how it looks.
