Count the Turkeys
Six rows of cheerful watercolor turkeys, from one to six, mixed up so children really count instead of guessing. A box at the end of each row is for the answer, and the page has a soft autumn border of leaves, acorns and pumpkins.
How to use this worksheet
- Point to the first row and count the turkeys out loud, touching each one.
- Write the number in the box at the end of the row. If writing numbers is new, write it lightly first and let your child trace over it.
- Finish every row, then color the box with the biggest number.
What your child practices
This sheet builds one-to-one counting: saying exactly one number for each turkey. The rows are not in order (3, 5, 2, 4, 1, 6), so counting up row by row won't work. Writing each answer connects the spoken number to the numeral, and the bonus asks your child to compare all six answers to find the biggest.
Who it is for
Made for Pre-K children around four to five, it also suits older preschoolers who count to five confidently and are ready to try six. Children who can't write numbers yet can say the answer and draw that many dots in the box instead.
Make it a Thanksgiving game
While cooking or setting the table, ask your child to count plates, napkins or rolls and check: is it more or less than the biggest row on the sheet? Short counting moments like these during a busy holiday week do more than one long practice session.
