Which One Is Different? (Thanksgiving)

Five rows of watercolor Thanksgiving pictures: turkeys, acorns, corn, pumpkins, pumpkin pies and maple leaves. In each row one picture is different, and your child circles it. The page has a warm autumn border.

Age4–5 years
PaperA4 / Letter, 1 page
Time10 minutes
Parent tipName every picture in the row together first (turkey, turkey, pie, turkey). Saying the words out loud makes the one that doesn't belong much easier to spot.

How to use this worksheet

  1. Look at the first row and name each picture out loud.
  2. Find the picture that is not like the others and circle it.
  3. Do all five rows, then color the harvest pictures.

What your child practices

Spotting the odd one out trains careful looking and comparing, the same skill children later use to tell apart letters like b and d. The different picture moves around the row (third, fourth, second, first, third), so your child has to check every picture instead of guessing the last one.

Who it is for

Best for Pre-K children around four to five. Younger preschoolers can do it too if you cover all but one row with a piece of paper so the page feels less busy.

Talk about why

After each circle, ask: why is that one different? "Because it's a pie and the others are turkeys" is the start of sorting and describing, which builds both early math and language. At the table, try the same game with three forks and a spoon.
