Picture Addition (Thanksgiving)
A Pre-K addition page with a cozy watercolor fall border. Four rows of pumpkins, acorns, pumpkin pies and turkeys are set out as little picture sums (two pumpkins plus one pumpkin, and so on). Children count both groups, then write how many in all in the big box.
How to use this worksheet
- Count the pictures before the plus sign, then the pictures after it.
- Count all the pictures in the row together.
- Write how many in all in the box. Then color the pictures.
What your child practices
Early addition by putting two small groups together and counting them all, plus writing numbers to 6. These are the first steps toward the plus sign and the addition taught in Kindergarten. Answers: 2 + 1 = 3, 3 + 2 = 5, 1 + 3 = 4, 3 + 3 = 6.
Who it is for
Made for Pre-K children around four to five who can count to 10 and are starting to write numbers. If writing is still tricky, your child can say the answer and you can write it lightly with dots for them to trace.
Make it real
Use real snacks: put two crackers on one plate and one on another, push them together and count. Say the sentence out loud, "two and one more make three," so the words match what your child sees.
