Count and Circle (Thanksgiving)
Four rows of soft watercolor fall pictures: pumpkins, acorns, pumpkin pies and turkeys, with one to five in each row. Children count the pictures and circle the matching number from 1 to 5 printed underneath, so no number writing is needed yet.
How to use this worksheet
- Point to the pumpkins in the first row and count them together, touching each one.
- Find that number in the row below the pictures and circle it.
- Do every row, then color the pictures.
What your child practices
Counting a small group and then finding its numeral. The rows hold 3, 5, 2 and 4 pictures, so the answers are mixed up and children can't just circle 1, 2, 3, 4 in order. Circling instead of writing keeps the focus on counting for children who can't form numbers yet.
Who it is for
Made for preschoolers around three to four who can say the numbers to five and are starting to recognize them. If the numerals are still new, say each one aloud and let your child point to it before circling.
Make it a Thanksgiving game
While you set the table, ask your child to count out up to five napkins, forks or rolls and then show you the number on the sheet. Counting real things before and after the page helps the idea stick.
