Trace the Harvest Trail
Four dotted trails join Thanksgiving pictures: a maple leaf to an acorn, a turkey to an ear of corn, an acorn to a pumpkin and a pumpkin to a pumpkin pie. The lines get a little harder down the page: straight, gently wavy, zigzag and curvy bumps.
How to use this worksheet
- Put a finger on the picture at the left of the first row.
- Follow the dotted line all the way to the picture on the right, first with a finger, then with a crayon.
- Do all four trails, then color the pictures.
What your child practices
Tracing dotted lines from left to right builds the hand control and direction children need before they write letters. Each row adds a new movement: a straight line, a smooth wave, sharp zigzag turns and round bumps, which match the strokes in many letters.
Who it is for
Made for preschoolers around three to four, and a good warm-up for Pre-K children too. If staying on the dots is hard, let your child go over each trail several times in different colors; neat is not the goal yet, a steady hand is.
Make it bigger
Children learn movements in big sizes before small ones. Draw the same four trails large on a sheet of paper or with chalk outside, and let your child walk a toy turkey along them before doing the worksheet.
