Odd One Out (Thanksgiving)

Four rows of big watercolor Thanksgiving pictures on a soft fall-leaf border: pumpkins, pumpkin pies, acorns and turkeys. In each row three pictures match and one is different, and children circle the odd one out. Large, friendly pictures and only four rows keep it right for preschoolers.

Age3–4 years
PaperA4 / Letter, 1 page
Time10 minutes
Parent tipName each picture out loud along the row: "pumpkin, pumpkin, pie, pumpkin." Hearing the odd word often helps a three-year-old spot the odd picture before they see it.

How to use this worksheet

  1. Look at all four pictures in the first row.
  2. Find the one picture that is not the same as the others and circle it.
  3. Do all four rows, then color the pictures.

What your child practices

Looking carefully and noticing what is the same and what is different, a visual skill that later helps with letters and numbers that look alike (b and d, 6 and 9). Answers: row 1 the pie (third picture), row 2 the acorn (first), row 3 the acorn (fourth), row 4 the pumpkin (second).

Who it is for

Made for preschoolers around three to four. If a row feels hard, cover the odd picture with your hand and ask "Are these all the same?", then uncover it and ask "Is this one the same too?"

Try it at the table

Line up three spoons and a fork, or three crackers and a grape, and ask your child to find the one that does not belong. Then let them set up a row for you to solve.
