Which Has More? (Thanksgiving)

Five rows of soft watercolor fall pictures: pumpkins, acorns, turkeys, leaves and pumpkin pies. Each row has two boxes with one to five pictures, and children circle the group that has more. Big pictures and a clear layout make it easy for little hands.

Time10 minutes
Parent tipCount each group out loud together, then ask "Which number is bigger?" If counting is still shaky, line up a finger under each picture: the side with pictures left over has more.

How to use this worksheet

  1. Look at the two boxes in a row and count the pictures in each one.
  2. Circle the box that has more.
  3. Do all five rows, then color the pictures.

What your child practices

Comparing two small groups and deciding which has more, an early math idea that comes before comparing numbers. The groups stay within five, so preschoolers can count them or simply see the difference. Answers: pumpkins 4 (right), acorns 5 (left), turkeys 3 (right), leaves 4 (left), pies 5 (right).

Who it is for

Made for preschoolers around three to four who can count to five. For a child who is just starting, cover one box with your hand, count the other, then swap, so they only look at one group at a time.

Make it a Thanksgiving game

At dinner, put two small piles of grapes, crackers or carrot sticks in front of your child and ask which pile has more, then which has fewer. Using the words more and fewer about real food is the best follow-up to the sheet.
